What to Expect From Your Pet's Physical

Your veterinarian will provide your pet with a comprehensive physical exam in order to obtain a full picture of their overall health. Routine pet checkup at our animal clinic in Los Angeles consist of the following components:

General Condition

Your cat or dog's physical condition and general demeanor could give you insight into their overall health. Their alertness level, how they stand and walk, and whether they are a healthy weight for their size are all key indicators of your pet's condition.

Coat & Skin

At your pet's checkup, your vet will examine your dog or cat's skin and coat for signs of problems such as abnormal shedding or hair loss, excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, or dandruff.

Face & Head

Your cat or dog's eyes, ears, and nose will be inspected for discharge or abnormalities. We will also examine your pet's mouth for symptoms of oral health problems such as periodontal disease or plaque buildup. 

Internal Health

Heart rate and rhythm, pulse, and blood pressure are extremely important to the health of your cat or dog's heart. We'll test these to see if they are normal. We will then look at the lungs for evidence of abnormal breathing. 

Your pet's lymph nodes will be checked for swelling or pain. We will also examine the abdomen to see if the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver, and stomach feel normal and that your four-legged friend is not showing any signs of discomfort. 

Review of Findings

After your pet's routine check-up, your vet will designate time to discuss any concerns they might have regarding your furry friend's overall health and talk to you about your pet's nutritional requirements. 

Checkups for Puppies & Kittens

Puppies and kittens require a high level of medical attention during the first few weeks of their life in order to have a healthy start. 

We will provide your new best friend with a full physical examination, appropriate immunizations, and deworming medication. We will also test your cat or dog for intestinal parasites. You will be given a puppy or kitten 'kit' that contains educational material and samples to help you take care of your new family member.

After your puppy or kitten's checkup is finished, you will come back periodically for their required booster shots. 

Seniors

With the newer advancements made in veterinary medicine and care, in addition to the newer therapies and better nutrition options available, senior pets are now living longer.

While this is great news for pets and their owners, it also means that special focus needs to be given to your cat or dog's routine healthcare as they get older. When your pet surpasses their middle-age years, routine examinations become more important for their continuing health and longevity. 

In addition to the routine wellness exams we conduct for all adult cats and dogs, we will give special attention to your senior pet's potential geriatric conditions, including arthritis or decreased vision.

Further laboratory tests might be recommended for aging pets to obtain more in-depth information about their overall health and wellbeing.
